The Emerging Swan Awards’ mission is to bring recognition and acclaim to all those little stories that could. The ones you fall in love with and can’t figure out why people haven’t discovered them yet. We’re hoping to bring them the kind of attention and love you think they deserve.

We have two rounds for nomination - One-shots, Short Stories and Full Length Fics: WIP and Completed. Each group will have its own initial round of voting, followed by one for all the finalists. Check out the descriptions below to see where your favorite underappreciated fic fits.

There are plenty of categories, so check them out and start compiling your list of nominees. The nomination forms and links will be available in early August. Be sure to read the rules before you nominate to make sure your favorites meet the necessary criteria.

Validation Criteria

Story must have been completed or updated within the last 12 months

Must meet these review guidelines

● The review count is based on the date on which the story is nominated.

● Stories that post on multiple sites will be validated by the highest review count. Therefore a story with 100 reviews on Twilighted but 1000 on fanfiction.net is not eligible for nomination.

● Any nominations in violation of these rules will be disqualified.

A story will be ineligible if there are significant grammar/punctuation/spelling mistakes.

Stories that are nominated for multiple categories will be validated to see where it fits best. Any story nominated in more than two different categories is under the discretion of the validation team. No story will be up for voting in more than two categories per round.

Story Authors CAN nominate their own stories, however they may only nominate ONE of their own stories per nomination round. If this rule is ignored and more than one story is nominated by its author, both of them will be disqualified. The validation team will NOT be choosing which story should be included, so please only nominate one of your stories per round.

The host’s stories are eligible for nomination should someone choose to nominate them. Someone other than the author will validate that the story meets the qualifications of the contest. Because this will be voted on by the public, host stories will be allowed.

Please do not nominate a story that has previously won a notable award within the fandom. We are really looking for the stories that are under the radar, giving these up and coming authors and stories some notice. This will be part of the validation process and will be disqualified if they have won another prestigious fandom award. If the story was nominated but did not win, it would still be considered eligible.

Finalists will be selected by the top 5 vote recipients in each category. If there are less than 5 initial nominees in the first round of voting, the hosts of the contest will determine the number of finalists put up for vote. In the event of a tie, all nominees that are tied (while still being within the top 5 vote getters) will be entered into the final round of voting.

Winners will receive not only bragging rights, but a lovely banner made by the fabulous christag_banner and a spotlight review on Twific Review’s blog.

Inspirations- Mix It Up

Introducing our new 'Inspirations' post!! We've been so excited to implement this feature to our site- we're hoping that it will help inspire authors to write. Now whether that's to be an entry in one of our contests, a different one, or just in general is completely up to you! Typically there will be an assortment of photos, videos, and words (quotes, sayings, etc.) that may or may not have anything to do with the contest we're running. This week since it's our first post (and it fits the theme of our Mix It Up Contest) we partnered up with TwiFic Pics and all of the amazing graphic makers there to come up with pictures of different Manips.

While looking through the pictures, keep in mind the idea for our current contest. Maybe you'll be inspired to enter?

A trait exchange, or a personality swap! What if your least favorite character had the personality of the one you loved, and vice versa?
For instance: (only suggestions)
Edward - with his southern drawl and history in the army.

The end of June brings with it another contest for us, and we're all so excited to be getting started on this one! With the additional help of our guest judges vbfb1 and SeeMyEvil, as well as our 2 new staff earthprincess4 and ThaigherLillie, we were able to scrounge together enough people to get this site moving again!! Our Previous Challenge winner, the beautiful CaraNo, had this brilliant idea for this month's contest!

Contest Theme:

-Collaborations are allowed.
-No more than 2 entries per person.
-Lemons are not required, although they are acceptable.
-Slash (of any sort) is accepted.

School’s finished, the sun’s out, it’s three months before you have to go back. What are you going to do? Take a road trip of course.

We want your best Summer Vacation Road trip stories. Whether it’s an end of high school road trip before going off to college, or it’s your last summer before you have to join the real world and get a job, it doesn’t matter.

Banners for Causes- Fandom Cause

Authors are often asked and encouraged to help raise awareness and monetary support for a multitude of charitable causes by submitting one-shots or outtakes, sometimes even original pieces of fiction to a compilation. As banner makers we want to find a way to help out as well.
This might include:

Creating promotional materials for a cause, such as headers for websites and buttons for supporters. Also, putting together websites and blogs when the need calls for it
Developing graphic packages (wallpapers, Twitter backgrounds, icons, avatars, etc.) to be sent along with the compilation of stories
Making banners for the one-shots/outtakes the authors submit to go along with the compilation

Fandom Fights the Tsunami's

On behalf of UNF4Rob, Krystal, Maria and Alex, we want to thank you for joining this site, our twitter account and your donations. As you know Japan, Hawaii and the West Coast were greatly and horrifically affected by a Tsunami. With the number of bodies that have been found growing quickly, it is nearing 300, they are in need of our help. The disaster destroyed huge parts of the areas and injured thousands. With your donation you could be helping out more than you know.

Whether you are an author dedicating your time and your words, or a donator, you are ALL amazing. By donating a minimum of $5 you will have access to a compilation of stories and poems by amazing authors. These stories are going to be from all different kinds of fandoms; not just twilight. Hello everyone! Welcome back for another writing challenge. This month we'd like to challenge your minds, and with the agreement of our previous challenge winner (Kris Salvador) our theme will be illusions!

What this means:

-Perhaps it's literal and there are magicians and magic tricks involved.

-Maybe there's a character that turns out to be a fraud.

-You could even write a story that has a completely shocking ending.

Foxy Fics Round 2

Many of you may remember the fundraiser I put together in August, helping to raise money for Parksinon's disease. Altogether, we raised a little over $1000 in just over two weeks. I am asking you to help me exceed our original goal, to help bring our total up to a new goal of $2000. All money donated benefits the Michael J. Fox Foundation in hopes of one day finding a cure.

For those of you who don't know my story, my Father-in-law was diagnosed with Parkinson's last year, and this past summer we celebrated his 60th birthday. He's a retired Marine, a father of three, step-father of 2, and grandfather of 6. He's a well-respected man, and I love him as if he were my own father. I hate watching him struggle, day to day, with this disease. I'm hoping to bring more awareness to others such as him by promoting Foxy Fics.

If you are interested in becoming a contributing author, I am accepting people now through February 15th. I don't care what fandom you're writing for - Twilight or otherwise - or if it's an outtake, one-shot, etc, but it must be something new and not already posted. Donations this time will run from March 1 - March 31. I also request that your writing piece not be posted until after April 1st, but I do welcome teasers.

In addition to Foxy Fics, I am starting something new. Now, this may seem controversial to some, I'm sure, but I wanted to add it to my blog anyway. For those who don't know, the medication for Parkinson's can run well over $1000 a MONTH. That's how much my Father-in-law is paying now, in fact. I am going to be adding a link that will be attached to a paypal account, specifically set-up for this fundraiser, and all money put into it will go directly into an account created for my Father-in-law as assistance for his medication. The seperate fundraiser will be called Dollars for Dennis.

I know it's a lot to put money into an account for someone you don't know, I realize this, so if you are uncomfortable doing so - don't. It won't offend me, I promise. I appreciate it if you simply want to help with Foxy Fics. But, for those of you who are okay with doing so, I'd like this to be a wonderful gift to my family, because I know he may not be able to continue working once his tremors worsen, and the money he is already putting towards medication is hurting them significantly, financially.

How It Works

You will get thirty minutes and a secret ingredient. The secret ingredient won't be given until the start of the thirty minutes. Within that time frame, you must write a complete One Shot of any genre, pairing, length etc. of Twilight FF. Any entries received after the thirty minute mark, will not be accepted. All entries will be anonymous. Winners will be chosen by a point system and public vote.

What Will the Secret Ingredient Be?

Who knows...Maybe a phrase. Or a specific character saying a line. Or a place. Or a description. Or an article of clothing. Something that will be easily identifiable.

Steps to Joining

1. Fill out an Entry Application.
2. Your ID number will be emailed to you. You must sign your entry with your ID number. Any entries signed with a name will be disqualified.
3. On the day of the challenge, the link to the secret ingredient and entry form will be tweeted 10 minutes before the actual start of the challenge.
4. You have ten minutes to brainstorm before the 30 minutes begin.
5. You may submit your entry at anytime within the 30 minute time frame. Any entries submitted before or after, will not be accepted.
6. The entries will then be up for a public vote.

The Point System

1. Every time you mention the secret ingredient in a way that makes sense, you will get 2 points. Random spouts of said secret ingredient do not count.
2. Every vote you get in the public vote is worth 1 point.

3. Obviously we aren't looking for perfectly beta'ed pieces, but there is a thing called Spell Check and copy & paste.

1. Come with some sort of plot in mind. Don't just show up and have no idea what to write. You only get 30 minutes!

We were all blown away from the response to this idea (we started the contest with 50 followers & it has now raised to an amazing 87!!) and we couldn’t have pulled it off without the help of the fabulous ladies over at TwiFicPics. Misunderstandings

I’d like to start off by saying that I’m sorry for any confusion and mistakes that were made during this contest; thus far and surely to come. We’re a new site and still getting the kinks out- we are learning what works and what doesn’t as we go. The contest was such a hit that it took us all by surprise. This contest was actually 5 times larger than any contest we have dealt with on this site to date so you can imagine that we were all scrambling. We are working to get a new program to make things more efficient and now know the proper way to set up the voting.

I know how hard all of you have worked; authors, readers, and general supporters alike. No one person is appreciated over the other. We love that our collaboration idea with TwiFicPics was able to inspire so many of you.

Just a heads up! There was a problem early on with the voting and it is now set that you can go back and edit your answers. Please double check, just to ensure that your vote went through. There shouldn’t be a problem but it was brought to my attention that it’s always better to be sure... so that’s what we shall do!

Now onto the more negative topic of this post.

The night that voting opened and the contest entry submission deadline came upon us, there was a mix up between the voting schedule. Typically we have the entries up that day (take note that a day is a 24 hour period) and everyone can vote. It’s never been a problem if some of the entries came in later in the evening and weren’t put on the site until one of us woke up to add them.

I know some of you were concerned and addressed me about so I fixed it as soon as I possibly could, and that was that. It was a nice conversation in which I apologized and asked for some patience and understanding and thanked everyone for all their hard work and dedication.

Something that I found COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE was the amount of derogatory language thrown my way. Being called various names (in several different languages) should never be something that is alright.

We run this site as something to be a nice addition to this fandom and by being hateful and rude you ruin the urge to continue. I’m not going to give you any satisfaction by pointing out what you said or who you are. You know who you are and what all was said and this is your warning; don’t let it happen again.

As you can imagine, we see a lot of fanfiction stories, but we're always a little surprised when a great one gets to us and no one has offered to make the author a banner. Banners certainly aren't a requirement of fanfiction, but they are are definitely eye-catching, and that's why we've expanded our staff to include people whose sole job here is to make sure the stories we feature in our reviews have a banner to go along with them. After all, we want these fics to stand out! And since that's gone over so well with the authors we've featured, we decided to host a little giveaway.

Objective:

Most of the time authors will take a story idea and run with it. Eventually they will then have a graphic made to represent the story. But what would happen if the process was reversed? If a bunch of designers created banners for stories that don’t exist yet, then challenged others to write one-shots based on those banners? In short… Pick A Pic! We present you with the challenge of creating a banner for a story that doesn’t yet exist. Once your banner has been submitted, it will be uploaded at TwiFic Pics, where writers can drop by and choose which banner they’d like to write a submission based upon, though there’s no guarantee that every banner will be chosen. At the end of the contest, winners will be determined by both public vote and judges choice. Be sure to check out the rules below!

Rules:

Entrants can submit an unlimited number of banners.
Banners should depict characters from the Twilight Saga. Canon and non-canon pairings (including slash) are welcome, as well as NSFW pics.
Canon Twilight actors are preferred, but other photos can be used with discretion.
Banners will be uploaded to the TwiFicPics site. (If the banner is more than 700px wide, it will be resized.)
Banners will be uploaded anonymously to the site as they are submitted.
Artists will be revealed once the voting portion of the contest is completed. Artists may reveal that they are taking part in the contest, but not which banner belongs to them.
All entries must be work that does not correspond with an already-written story or O/s.
Designers are encouraged to enter the writing portion of the contest as well, but are not permitted to write a one-shot corresponding to their banner entry.
Banner entries cannot simply be just a photo with some text; there must be at least two photo editing elements included.
Banners can include a title, but it is not required.

Judging & Prizes:

A public vote will occur from January 8th – January 15th. Votes will be tallied for favorite banners as well as favorite one-shots. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes awarded. A panel of judges will also critique both the banner and one-shot submissions. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes will be awarded, as well as any special awards determined by the judges. First place winners will will receive t-shirts courtesy of myt-spot.com. Banner winners will also receive a feature and interview on TwiFic Pics.

Objective:

Many times authors will have a story idea and run with it. Eventually they will then have a graphic made to represent the story. What we challenge you to do is reverse this process; Write a story based on a pre-made banner. The banners will be provided by the collaborating graphic contest entries at TwiFic Pics. In short… Pick A Pic! To enter the contest please fill out the form in our sidebar labeled 'Contest Entry Form'.

Rules:

One-shot.
Minimum of 2,000 words (Without Author’s notes).
Banner makers are encouraged to enter the writing portion of the contest as well, but are not permitted to write a one-shot corresponding to their banner entry.
Stories can be written in any POV (or a specific character’s POV, or multiple POV's).
Collaborations are allowed.
No more than 2 entries per person (if participating in 2 collabs and you wish to write a solo entry you may enter 1 additional).
Lemons are not required, although they are acceptable.
Slash (of any sort) is accepted, but let us know that theme is included in your entry so we can add the proper warnings.
Previously written One-shots are not allowed.
Entries should not be continued until the duration of the contest is complete.
We will post your story links from your profile on the FWC, and you have time until Friday January 7, 2011 11:59 PM PST, to enter your entry.
NO rape/abuse/incest/pedophilia/bestiality, etc. (submissions will be banned at the discretion of the monitors).
To submit your entry simply fill out our CONTEST ENTRY FORM in the left hand column (<-- over there).

12 Days of Christmas Writing Challenge

What is it we're looking for, you ask?

On the first day of Christmas my true love ’ward’ gave to me .....

A TwiFic twist on the popular childrens song The 12 Days of Christmas, we provide the prompts you provide the stories. Don't worry whether you're NAUGHTY OR NICE, we want it all.

Beginning December 1st and continuing until December 12th, we will post prompts at http://www.blogger.com/www.twigirlsnextdoor.com to inspire your creative genius.

You will be given two prompts per day. You ONLY need to choose one of the two to write each day. But you may choose to include both prompts in your chapter/one-shot.

In the end, you should have either a 12 chapter story OR 12 one-shots with a Christmas theme. Each chapter/one-shot MUST be at least 100 words. There is NO maximum word limit.

Please write in order of the prompts. For example, the Day One prompt(s) should be your first chapter or first one-shot. Please list the prompt(s) that you chose as the corresponding chapter/one-shot title.

Don’t worry if you come upon the challenge after December 1st, you can still join in the fun, just go through the prior days prompts and begin writing. There will be 2 weeks at the end of the challenge to finish up your submissions, post them to your FanFiction profile, and submit your entry. All entries must be submitted by 11:59 PST on December 25th, 2010.

There should only be one entry per author - if you are submitting 12 one-shots, they should be
posted as ONE story where each one-shot is posted as a separate chapter.

The prompt(s) that you use for each chapter/one-shot should be listed as the chapter/one-shot title.

All entries will appear as a separate story in the 12 Days of Christmas FanFiction Community.

There will ONLY be 1 winner decided by a public vote along with the Judge’s Choice winner(s).

Sorry for the delay, there were a couple of things (mostly timezones) working against us this time. Without further adieu I'd like to present the Bloodthirsty Belles & Sinful Senoritas Challenge winners. Alright, I'm going to start off this time by apologizing to all of you amazing people out there for being so patient with us this time around. With the seasons changing I'm sure I don't have to remind you of the different things that are going on (i.e. school, work, etc.) so I'm just going to say we were swamped and we beg your forgiveness ;)

Our newest features are F*ck Me Fridays and FMF: Amateur Ink Night. FMF was thought up by our staff to help start the weekend off right--we want to read stories that make us feel the urge to say “f*ck me” to the nearest breathing male. Okay, maybe not that intense, but you get the picture.

There are alternating rounds that switch off each Friday. We start with the regular FMF, where well-established Twific authors contribute a smutty one-shot for all of us to enjoy. That same night, there will be a prompt given for new and new-ish writers so that they can write their own smutty piece. Their entries are sent in and judged. The lucky winner is broadcast the following Friday during FMF: Amateur Ink Night.

We hope that this will foster lots of creativity, smutty inspiration, and lovely Fridays!

All I can think to say for this contest is 'WOW!' Honestly if you were curious to know why it took so long to get our results out this time the answer is simple... we couldn't choose! It amazes me, the talent that the authors in our fandom possess and when they share that willingly? I'm speechless!

First of all, we wanted to thank and congratulate all of you again for participating in our first contest. We weren’t expecting all those entries, so you can’t imagine how happy we were when we found out we had 15 stories’ entries!! And let me tell you that all the one-shots were amazing!! It was really hard to choose only one.

A couple of quick announcements before we move on as well. Our blog now has a new feature in which those whose contests are listed on our blog can post their winners here as well!
